I am at my limit

Hey all, Mo here.

I wanted to put out this quick essay. Hopefully one of my last ones before Bullshit no Yuusha is ready to go. I’m sorry I’m late on that by the way, I’m really trying.

But I just needed to write this piece about Yasuke in particular. Because it’s got me pressed in a way that I have not been pressed in quite a while.

So a couple nights ago on our Discord server, which you should join if you want to talk to me and stuff, we binged Yasuke, the new Netflix anime by LeSean Thomas…

So in September I wrote a thing.

And now I’mma write another thing. Because more things have happened.

January 6th, 2021 cemented itself as one of the most important dates in recent US history after hundreds of armed fascists, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other reactionaries stormed the Capitol building in Washington DC to demand a stop to the Senate’s vote-confirmation process that would confirm Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States. They set up crosses and nooses, declaring Trump to be a president chosen by Christ to save America from the evils of socialism and the CCP…

I’m immediately regretting naming this post after Vladimir Lenin’s “What Is to Be Done?”

First because Vladimir Lenin is a renowned statesman and political theorist who ran an entire country while I’m just a black dude who watches anime.

Second, and more importantly, “What Is to Be Done?” …

Since this is The Discourse today I figured I’d jump in with a quick little thing on electoralism. I’ll probably save this to link to people so I don’t get dragged into long useless conversations.

Any honest person looking at the situation we find ourselves in will have to admit that in strict terms, a Biden/Harris presidency would be better in concrete ways than the Trump/Pence fascist shitshow we have now.

We aren’t centrists here, yeah?

This is usually where online conversation ends, because oh my God who’s terrible idea was it to have nuanced conversation on Twitter of all…

Mo Black. The Bullshit Hero.

With his power of RETURN BY DRAFT, he lived through any essay he wrote with his own flesh and blood. Every revision was a deadly slash to the gut, or, if you will, a playful knife stroke to the chest. Every new draft: death and rebirth.

In front of him, radiating with power, stood Sakana. The goddess of all isekai. The queen of kings of dimensions infinite. The keeper of waifus. The satisfier of wish fulfillment. The —

Y’know, she has kind of a long title. We don’t need to rehash it here.

Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational moral outrage!

This is it. This is the show (Used under Fair Use)

CW: female objectification/fetishization, bad writing, spoilers I guess but do you really give a shit this show has no plot

The most revolting section of Marx and Engels’ Critique of the Gotha Program is the now famous section in Part II where they highlight in no uncertain terms the need for the left to destroy the institution of huge anime boobs in order to establish communism. …

This is probably now how you use Medium, right? Like, I’ve never seen a Medium writer publish a story just to generate a push notification and get people to click. But, eh, whatever.

Yeah I’ll be answering questions over on my YouTube channel soon. I’ve noticed a few of my older stories, like my diverse characters in writing story, have gained a bit of steam online lately, so if you have questions about how I view storytelling or any of the media analysis I do you can ask ’em.

The link is this one.

CW: transphobia, abuse, spoilers for MHA

In February of 2020, a Japanese Twitter user created quite the stir in My Hero Academia’s online fandom with their observation that four characters of the property share birthdays with extremist, mostly far-right political figures in Japanese history. Characters in the story shared birthdays with Adolf Hitler and WWII-era Japanese war criminals, among others. It came straight off the heels of another controversy, where author Horikoshi Kouhei named a villain who conducts human experiments in the manga Maruta, a word with strong connotations to the human experimentation that took place under fascist Japan.

Chapter 3: Bullshit! Isekai “parodies” are just isekai but more obnoxious?

Kono subarashii sekai ni shukufuku o! (Konosuba)

Mo felt his knees buckle as his panicked eyes flitted about. Another draft. Another death. Another revival to the same point in the essay.

What had he done do deserve such a fate?

It was his hubris. The arrogance in deigning to write the perfect anime crit essay.

“Are you going to be okay?” Sakana asked, her tone so flat and detached that it seemed the question came more out of a sense of obligation than any real concern. “Should we take a break, or whatever?”

“How many times?” he mumbled to himself. …

Yup, I’m doing it.

The modernist philosophical movement as a whole is complex and multifaceted, shaped by the changes to the world at the turn of the 20th century and the start of industrial capitalism as we know it today. Modernist art saw a combination of reacting to the rapid expansion of science and technology (the modernization of art subjects, if you will) with objective categories and institutions used to classify art. Modernism brought into focus the process of making art itself. Satire and irony became commonplace.

Because art could now criticize other art, the fixed categories of “good art” and “bad art” emerged…
